THE GOATS HAVE LANDED!!!!

I was going to write this yesterday but it ended up being a pretty busy day yesterday. Plus I was pretty beat from my 20km walk on Saturday. So here they are!!! Dom Perignon, or Dom, is on the left. He’s our male goat and he’s been fixed (or in goats they call it wethered) and Brandy is on the right. They’re both nigerian dwarf goats. goats2.jpg

The morning started with a drive to pick up the goats. It was about a 45 minute drive. And they rode home in the back seat of our truck. Dom rode on my lap the whole way and Brandy sat next to me and cried most of the way home. About 2/3 of the way home she finally settled and was more quiet. It was a pretty uneventful trip.

We still had a few things left to do for the goats when we got them here, hanging the mineral feeder and water bucket, but we wanted to wait until we got the goats home to make sure that they were at the right height for the goats!

They settled in pretty nicely. And they are so friendly. If they hear us coming they stand at the gate waiting for us. They follow us around the goat yard.  I even set a chair up in their house, Brandy curled up on the bed we made for her, Dom stood behind me. And I fell asleep. It was at that point that I realised I needed a nap.

I took today off to spend with them (and tomorrow). This morning I took a fecal sample to the vet and there were some eggs so we dewormed them today and that went well.

We’ve also been milking Brandy. We didn’t get a ton of milk out of her yesterday but did better today. It’ll take some practice but we got enough for our daily milk, and then over the next few days while we wait for the dewormer to get out of our system the milk will be for soap making!

So that’s the story of my goats so far!
